Mahātapas said: Hear also another, sin-destroying, account of the origin of the lord of wealth — how Vāyu, dwelling within the body, came to be the giver of wealth. In that first body Vāyu abode within; because of a purpose, embodiment was enjoined (upon him), (he being) the deity of the field. There I shall relate the origin of the embodied Vāyu; hear it as I tell it, greatly fortunate, sinless one. From the mouth of Brahmā, who desired to create, Vāyu issued forth, raining down fierce hail; Brahmā checked him: "Become embodied and calm!" — being so addressed there, he became embodied. "Whatever wealth and fruit belongs to all the gods, guard all that" — since he was told this, he became the lord of wealth. Pleased with him, the lord Brahmā gave him the eleventh lunar day: to whoever on that day eats what is not cooked on fire, being restrained and pure, to him the god Dhanada, pleased, swiftly grants everything. This is the embodiment of the lord of wealth, destroyer of all defilement. The man who hears this with devotion, or recites it, obtains every desire and goes to the world of heaven.
