Abandoning (it) he went to death and came to the state of a preta. In waterless regions and in shadeless forests... For the sake of maintaining his family he came to an impassable wilderness. "My aged father is at home, my mother, and my wife devoted to her husband." "Give (me) the fruit of your bathing, then go as you please." Then, hearing the preta's speech, Vibhu spoke (these) words: "A reciter there recites the auspicious tale of the Purāṇas, and my friend goes there constantly." "How do you sustain your life-breaths, taking shelter at the foot of a tree?" If a man should stand for a thousand yugas on one foot, greater than his would be the merit of one dwelling in Mathurā.
