Subrahmaṇya said: This very secret, O sage, was told to Bhṛgu the Śiva-yogin by the Lord himself, the omniscient bearer of the Pināka: the full understanding of the three categories, arising from the sayings of Vedānta and the Āgamas. Having heard the yoga from the mouth of the guru, one should practise it beginning with the restraints. Having bowed the venerable feet behind the God of gods, they stand as forms of grace, engaged in action alone. And having bestowed grace, samādhi and (the powers) that have the form of the vibration of service to him, the unhindered attainments whose form is mastery over the workings of the sun and the rest (arise). Reciting "om" at the end, one should thereupon complete the worship of the god; thereby there comes about the quieting of that fault, O lord of sages. Then all those ascetics, in the eastern quarter, or else in the northern, in a holy place near a holy tree, having touched the ground with the five brahma-(mantras), should recite with mind fixed on nothing else: "He who, setting out among the gods, is the supreme one — he is Maheśvara."
