In the aupāsana fire the (rite) is to be performed according to the rule stated in one's own Gṛhya (text); after that, the sequence of the sacrifice belonging to Agni, up to the ājya-portions. Then, having attended upon the evening twilight worship, preceded by bathing, and having offered the evening aupāsana oblation, he should, keeping silence, inform the teacher. And with the brahman (verses) he should visualize Mahādeva together with Ambā in the fire; having offered with the mantra 'gaurīr mimāya', recollecting Gaurī. Designating each of those deities, the discerning one should perform (the rite) together with its ancillaries. Thus the sequence of ritual acts, beginning with the agnimukha, has been set forth. And scripture has said: 'time, own-nature, necessity' — just this set of five is called its fivefold sequence. At the end of the word for the three worlds, (offering) to the all-pervading supreme Self: 'this is for Śiva, not mine' — after that he should say the word (thus). 'I cause (it) to enter' — at the end of the word he should utter 'suvar om'. First he should recite the three-footed (verse), and after that 'sāvitrī'. The praṇava is the beginning of all the Vedas; the praṇava denotes Śiva; it is the overlord and king of mantras, the great seed, the supreme mantra. Then he should say 'all', and 'by me' — so it has been declared. Having meditated on Sadāśiva in the heart, then, O sage, 'manda' and so on; and rising again slowly, looking with love upon his own teacher, he should stand with palms joined near the teacher's feet. Then, by his command, the disciple, following the meaning of the Vedānta, should become devoted to the knowledge of Śiva, according to the distinction of (Śiva) with attributes and without attributes.
