And of what sort is its distinguishing mark, and what fruit comes about when it is performed? And what is dear to the Supreme Mother — tell me all of that without remainder. From ritual action devotion arises; from devotion knowledge is born; from knowledge liberation is born — such is the settled conclusion in the scriptures. On Śrīparvata, greatly meritorious, at Gokarṇa, on the mountain of knowledge, in Mathurā, in Ayodhyā, and likewise in Dvāravatī, merit is fully obtained by the building of a temple for the Goddess. (She says:) "By whom that Goddess, Mother of the world, consisting of the three Vedas, has been installed — let my people, those who have a share of love, live a hundred years." Thus the Glorious Mother speaks day and night, (as one) who does not go the way of calamities. At the end of the worship, servants should always ask pardon for wrongdoing: "Be gracious, Supreme Mistress, giver of joy to the world." With jasmine, mālatī, campaka, japā, bandhūka and lotus blossoms — with (such) flowers one should worship Gaurī together with Śaṃkara. The wise man who thus performs the worship, the vow and the chariot festival, having enjoyed here all enjoyments, at the end goes to the abode of the Goddess. He who, in the bright fortnight of Kārttika, of Mārgaśīrṣa, of Pauṣa, of Māgha, and likewise of Phālguna, on the third day should perform the vow —
