Eating what is not to be eaten, injury, engaging in false actions, taking what belongs to others: fourfold is the karma of the body. And those utterly deluded ones who steal a book of Śiva-knowledge — six great sins they are called, yielding endless fruit: (abandoning) a guru who is dead, or helpless, or gone abroad, or overcome by enemies — whoever forsakes (such a one) is a doer of evil. The seizing of the property of gods and of twice-born men, and whatever is acquired unjustly, is to be known as a sin equal to the slaying of a brahmin; there is no doubt here. And intercourse with a woman of one's own caste is declared equal to (intercourse with) the guru's wife. The great sins have been told; now hear from me the lesser sins.
