And tell (me), O lord, the greatness of the śrāddha and its fruit, and by what good the pleased ancestors join (a man) to it. Yudhiṣṭhira said: How is nourishment obtained by men who desire nourishment? This I wish to hear—what should one do so as not to sink? At the time of the śrāddha the rice-ball was offered by me for my father; my father broke through the earth with my hand(?) and begged. He said to me: "Say it—if you wish, I shall give (it) to you." When I had spoken thus, that king, being asked by me there, replied: "Just as I was born, so am I renowned as 'Kumāra'; therefore this name Sanatkumāra of mine has been declared, O sage." Then the god Brahmā said to those doubting gods: "Hear, all you immortals: you are not speakers of the Veda (Brahman)." Thus those gods (who were) ancestors attained sonship according to dharma, and they are renowned on the circle of the earth as ancestors of one another.
