tathā kathaya me nātha yadyahaṃ tava vallabhā || iti pṛṣṭastayā devyā pratyuvāca maheśvaraḥ mukhaṃ karṇau tathā cakṣurjihvāstambho yadā bhavet|| tadā mṛtyuṃ vijānīyātṣaṇmāsābhyantare priye āṃgikāni mayoktāni mṛtyucihnāni pārvati|| bāhyasthāni bruve bhadre cihnāni śṛṇu sāṃpratam hastayorubhayordevi yathā kālaṃ vijānate || vāmadakṣiṇayormadhye pratyakṣaṃ cetyudāhṛtam evaṃ sa harate kālaḥ paripāṭyā sadāśivaḥ || vāmadakṣiṇamadhye tu pathi trayamidaṃ smṛtam catussthāne sthitā devi ṣoḍaśaitāḥ prakīrtitāḥ || teṣāṃ pramāṇaṃ vakṣyāmi sāmprataṃ hi yathārthataḥ| caturviśaddinaṃ śeṣaṃ jīvitaṃ ca na saṃśayaḥ || prāṇavāhā yadā vāme caturddaśadināni tu pravāheṇa daśāhena tatsaṃsthena vipadyate || triṃśaddhasrapravāhena pañcāhena vipadyate

So tell me, husband, if I am dear to you. Thus asked by the Goddess, Maheśvara replied: When there occurs a paralysis of the mouth, the ears, the eye and the tongue, then, dear one, one should know death (will come) within six months. These, Pārvatī, are the bodily signs of death that I have stated; now, good lady, I shall tell the external ones — hear the signs now. In both hands, Goddess, (one may know) how the time is known; in the middle of the left and the right it is said to be directly perceptible. Thus Sadāśiva as Time carries (one) off in due order; and in the middle of left and right this triad is held to be on the path. Established in four places, Goddess, these sixteen are declared; I shall now state their measure truly. The remainder of life is twenty-four days — there is no doubt. When the breath flows in the left, then it is fourteen days; by a flow lasting ten days, with that condition, one perishes; with a flow of thirty thousand, one perishes in five days.
