Mārkaṇḍeya, best of sages, long-lived, greatly mighty, foremost of Śiva's devotees, illustrious, (became so) by Śiva's grace, O Hari. To him Lord Rudra said in person: 'I am pleased with you, sinless one; you shall become a composer of books, famed in the world, free from old age and death.'
