SiP 5 13.1
।। सनत्कुमार उवाच ।। तपस्तपति योऽरण्ये वन्यमूलफलाशनः ।। योऽधीते ऋचमेकां हि फलं स्यात्तत्समं मुने
|| sanatkumāra uvāca || tapastapati yo'raṇye vanyamūlaphalāśanaḥ || yo'dhīte ṛcamekāṃ hi phalaṃ syāttatsamaṃ mune
Sanatkumāra said: The fruit of one who performs austerity in the forest, living on wild roots and fruits, and (the fruit) of one who recites a single verse (of the Veda) — these would be equal, O sage.

jagadyathā nirālokaṃ jāyate'śaśibhāskaram || vinā tathā purāṇaṃ hyadhyeyamasmānmune sadā
Just as the world becomes lightless when it has neither moon nor sun, so (it is) without the Purāṇa; therefore this (Purāṇa) is always to be studied, O sage.

tapyamānaṃ sadājñānānniraye yo'pi śāstrataḥ || sambodhayati lokaṃ taṃ tasmātpūjyaḥ purāṇagaḥ

sarveṣāṃ caiva pātrāṇāṃ madhye śreṣṭhaḥ purāṇavit || patanāttrāyate yasmāttasmātpātramudāhṛtam akṣayānsarvakāmāṃśca paratreha ca janmani || aśvamedhamakhasyāpi sa phalaṃ labhate pumān purāṇaśravaṇācchaṃbhorniṣpāpo jāyate naraḥ || bhuktvā bhogānsuvipulāñchivalokamavāpnuyāt yatpuṇyaṃ sarvadāneṣu sarvayajñeṣu vā mune || śaṃbhoḥ purāṇaśravaṇāttatphalaṃ niścalaṃ bhavet na bhaveyuḥ purāṇāni dharmamārge kṣaṇāni tu || yadyatra yadvratī sthātā cātra pāratrakī kathām
And among all worthy recipients the knower of the Purāṇa is the best; since he saves (one) from falling, he is therefore called a 'vessel' (pātra). That man obtains all desires, imperishable, in the next world and in this birth, and even the fruit of the horse-sacrifice. By hearing the Purāṇa of Śaṃbhu a man becomes free of sin; having enjoyed abundant pleasures he would attain the world of Śiva. Whatever merit there is in all gifts or in all sacrifices, O sage, that fruit becomes unshakable through hearing Śaṃbhu's Purāṇa. The Purāṇas would not be (mere) moments on the path of dharma; whatever vow one keeps here, one who is bound for the other world (should hear) the story here.

martyabuddhirna kartavyā purāṇajñe kadācana || purāṇajñassarvavettā brahmā viṣṇurharo guruḥ
One should never form the notion 'mortal' with regard to a knower of the Purāṇa; the knower of the Purāṇa is the all-knower — Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Hara, the teacher.
