In the meanwhile, O brahmins, (people) came to give a girl (in marriage), and he performed his (son's) wedding right there according to the rule. The husband held that elder wife dear and not the younger; even so, the elder woman then became foul within herself. Rising at dawn and looking at the bride's bed, wet with blood and strewn with pieces of a body, she came to grief. And she (Ghuṣmā), taking up the clay (liṅgas), her mind composed as before, uttering the names of Śambhu, went to the bank of the lake. "Thus, O god, I have heard the wondrous word of the Lord: therefore let it be done in this way by him who has done so, O Sadāśiva." Sūta said: Having spoken thus, Śiva then became a liṅga there, renowned by the name Ghuśmeśa, and the lake too became an abode of Śiva.
