That king had as a friend, O twice-born, the gaṇa Maṇibhadra, chief among the gaṇas of the Lord of the Mountain, honoured by all the world. All the kings, being envious and unwise, begged that gem, obtained from a god, from Candrasena by various devices. Having seen that wholly marvellous worship of Śiva performed by her (or: by him), she bowed down and went back again to her own camp. Seeing the worship of the god who bears the trident destroyed by his mother, that boy cried out "O God of gods!" and fell down. There he saw his own mother sleeping, marked with divine signs, her body shining with jewelled ornaments, like a wife of the gods in person. And all those kings who had assembled and come together spoke thus to one another, being greatly startled at hearing that. Then all those lords of the earth, pleased, seeking Śiva's grace, gave many things to that cowherd boy. Sūta said: Having spoken thus, the son of Añjanī, the Lord of monkeys in the form of Śiva, looked upon all the kings and Candrasena with a glance of compassion.
