ato matvā svabhāgyaṃ hi kathayiṣyāmi pāvanīm || pāpapraṇāśinīṃ divyāṃ kathāṃ ca śṛṇutādarāt devapriyaśca tajjyeṣṭhaḥ priyamedhāstataḥ param|| tṛtīyastu kṛto nāma dharmavāhī ca suvrataḥ tatrāgatya sa daityendraścaturo daityasattamān || provācāhūya vacanaṃ vipra drohī mahākhalaḥ sūta uvāca || teṣāmiti vacaśśrutvā vedapriyasutāśca te || samūcurbrāhmaṇāstānvai viśvastāśśaṃkare sadā kiyatsainyaṃ hataṃ tena kiṃcitsainyaṃ palāyitam|| dūṣaṇaśca hatastena śiveneha parātmanā mahākāleśvaro nāma śivaḥ khyātaśca bhūtale || taṃ dṛṣṭvā na bhavetsvapne kiṃcidduḥkhamapi dvijāḥ
Therefore, reckoning my own good fortune, I shall tell the purifying, divine story that destroys sin; listen to it with attention. Devapriya was the eldest of them, Priyamedhas next after him; the third was named Kṛta, and (the fourth) Dharmavāhī, of good vows. Coming there, that lord of the demons summoned the four foremost demons and spoke a word, O brahmin — he, the malicious, the great villain. Sūta said: Hearing this speech of theirs, those sons of Vedapriya, the brahmins, ever trusting in Śaṅkara, replied to them. How much of the army was slain by him, and some of the army fled; and Dūṣaṇa was slain here by that Śiva, the supreme Self. As Mahākāleśvara that Śiva is renowned on earth; on seeing him no sorrow at all would come, even in a dream, O twice-born ones.
