Coming out of that pit and again afflicting the creatures, the demon of great valour then entered that pit (again). And he too, when harassed by the gods, as soon as he approached the pit, was pierced through by the trident by Śiva, the Supreme Self. — Sūta said: There was a brahmin named Dadhīci, most righteous, who had gone to the far shore of the Vedas, ever devoted to devotion to Śiva, intent upon the scriptures of Śiva. — "Since, knowing this, you acted thus, therefore go to a state of dullness; be untouchable to me, and behold (me) from a distance." — Caṇḍikā herself propitiated Śiva for her son's sake; angry and then not angry, Caṇḍī became gracious in mind toward that son of hers. — "A round mark (tilaka) is to be made, and bathing is always to be done by you; the Śiva twilight-rite is to be performed, and the Gāyatrī that belongs to him. — Whether it be auspicious or inauspicious, one should not abandon the Baṭuka; and in a Prājāpatya offering of food the Vaṭu alone is preeminent." — And seeing that then and there, the learned men were asked by the king: "Indeed brahmins are eating here, but the banner has not been raised."
