Śilāda, urged respectfully by the ancestors, became desirous of offspring — by those who, in devotion, wished for their own deliverance and whose minds were set on being raised up (by him). Śakra said: "I shall give a son to you who desire a son, womb-born and subject to death; otherwise I shall not give you (one), for there are none free of death." And the sage's body was covered over by an anthill, on every side, by hosts of insects in lakhs (and by others) needle-mouthed and blood-drinking. Then, having heard that, Śilāśana bowed to the lord of the gods and spoke to him who is adorned with the moon, in a voice choked with joy. Then Brahmā and the other gods, and the gods' wives, came there from all sides with great delight, and Hari too, and Śiva with Ambikā. And in my fifth year my father taught me the Vedas completely, with their limbs and sub-limbs, and likewise the other sciences as well. The father said: "What austerity, what knowledge, what yoga is yours, and who is your lord, by which you will cheat that terrible sorrow, my son?"
