While that king was protecting the earth with good law, O sage, a long time passed happily by, in accordance with the dharma of Śiva. — Coming there, the king's beloved wife, scorched (with grief), very delicate, took shelter by a shady tree on the shore of a lake in order to stay (there). — "This (child) has no father or other kin here as helpers. What can the reason have been? Ah, the power of fate is great!" — The brahmin's wife said: "By your command I shall protect this child like my own son; I shall nourish (him) — there is no doubt of it; by my good fortune you have come here." — Nandīśvara said: Thus he reported to him everything: his birth, his father's death in battle, and his mother's death by a crocodile. — While he was worshipping Śambhu, delighting in Giriśa at nightfall, there arose a great and altogether dreadful noise in the city. — "Therefore your son has fallen into poverty, O brahmin lady; to remove that fault, go for refuge to Śaṃkara." — As the two boys, the king's son and the brahmin's son, thus worshipped Śambhu, four months passed happily for them.
