And you, child, child Hari, protect thus what moves and does not move. This supreme form of mine, O Brahmā, of such a kind, arisen from your body, will become manifest in the world and will be proclaimed by the name Rudra. It is called the root-source, and it is eternal (or: called 'sat'), truth, knowledge, endless. Knowing (it) thus, it is always to be meditated on with the mind, and truly. And you, resorting to Lakṣmī, are fit to do your work here; and you, O Brahmā, having obtained the goddess of speech, who is a portion of Prakṛti. Hari, whose inner nature is sattva, who is outside tamas, is the destroyer of the three worlds (at dissolution)."

triyā bhinno hyahaṃ viṣṇo brahmaviṣṇuharākhyayā|| sargarakṣālayaguṇairniṣkalohaṃ sadā hare

I am indeed divided threefold, O Viṣṇu, under the names Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Hara; (yet) by the qualities of creation, protection and dissolution I am always undivided, O Hari.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

SiP 2 9.29

yathā ca jyotiṣassaṃgājjalādeḥ sparśatā na vai || tathā mamāguṇasyāpi saṃyogādbandhanaṃ na hi

And just as, from contact with water and the like, there is no (real) being-touched of light, so too for me, who am without attributes, there is no bondage from (such) conjunction.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

SiP 2 9.33

śivarūpaṃ mamaitañca rudro'pi śivavattadā || na tatra parabhedo vai kartavyaśca mahāmune

And this form of mine is Śiva('s form), and Rudra too is then like Śiva; no further distinction is to be made there, O great sage.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

SiP 2 9.34

vastuto hyekarūpaṃ hi dvidhā bhinnaṃ jagatyuta || ato na bhedā vijñeyaḥ śive rudre kadācana

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

SiP 2 9.35

suvarṇasya tathaikasya vastutvaṃ naiva gacchati || alaṃkṛtikṛte deva nāmabhedo na vastutaḥ

So too the substance-nature of a single (mass of) gold does not depart; for the sake of ornament, O god, there is a difference of name, not in substance.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

SiP 2 9.36

tathaikasyā mṛdo bhedo nānāpātre na vastutaḥ|| kāraṇasyaiva kārye ca sannidhānaṃ nidarśanam

Likewise the difference of a single (lump of) clay in various vessels is not real; and the presence of the cause itself in the effect is the illustration.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

SiP 2 9.37

This is to be known by the best of the wise, by those of spotless knowledge, O you two gods; and knowing thus, no ground for difference is to be seen by you two.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

SiP 2 9.38

vastuvatsarvadṛśyaṃ ca śivarūpammatammama || ahaṃ bhavānajaścaiva rudro yo'yaṃ bhaviṣyati

And everything visible, like a (single) substance, is held by me to be Śiva's form: I, you, the Unborn (Brahmā), and this Rudra who will come to be.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

SiP 2 9.39

ekarūpā na bhedastu bhede vai baṃdhanaṃ bhavet || tathāpi ca madīyaṃ hi śivarūpaṃ sanātanam

They are of one form; there is no difference — in difference there would indeed be bondage. Even so, this Śiva-form of mine is eternal.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

SiP 2 9.41

śrūyatāṃ caiva bho brahmanyadgopyaṃ kathyate mayā || bhavaṃtau prakṛteryātau nāyaṃ vai prakṛteḥ punaḥ

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

SiP 2 9.42

madājñā jāyate tatra brahmaṇo bhrukuṭeraham|| guṇeṣvapi yathā proktastāmasaḥ prakṛto haraḥ

There, by my command, I am born from the frown of Brahmā; and among the qualities too, as has been said, Hara is (called) of the dark quality (tāmasa) and derived from Prakṛti.

SiP 2 9.43

vaikārikaśca vijñeyo yo'haṃkāra udāhṛtaḥ || nāmato vastuto naiva tāmasaḥ paricakṣyate

And he is to be understood as vaikārika (born of modification), which is declared to be the ahaṃkāra; he is called tāmasa in name only, not in reality.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

SiP 2 9.44

etasmātkāraṇādbrahmankaraṇīyamidaṃ tvayā || sṛṣṭikartā bhava brahmansṛṣṭeśca pālako hariḥ

tasyāstu śaktirvā devī brahmāṇaṃ sā bhajiṣyati || anyā śaktiḥ punastatra prakṛteḥ saṃbhaviṣyati

her power, the goddess, will attend upon Brahmā; and again another power of Prakṛti will come into being there.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition
