Brahmā said: While Pārvatī was thus performing austerity for the obtaining of Śiva, O lord of sages, a long time passed by and Hara did not appear. (They said:) "Let all of you go, well pleased, each to his own abode; he will surely be gratified — no deliberation is needed here." When those (gods) had gone, she, surrounded by her companions, performed austerity greater still, wholly resolved upon the supreme goal.

Then Himālaya, having come with his wife, sons and ministers, spoke to Pārvatī, the supreme goddess, who was firm in her resolve. Brahmā said: When the slender one, established in austerity, was thus addressed by all of them, she of the pure smile, laughing, spoke to Himavān. Then all the gods and asuras, yakṣas, kinnaras and cāraṇas, siddhas, sādhyas and sages, vidyādharas and great serpents — having heard that speech of theirs, of us dwellers in heaven and the rest, Rameśvara, seated upon the couch of Śeṣa, said to us: "Therefore you discerning ones must go together with me, holding Śambhu, the maker of good, to be (our) refuge, O radiant one" — (to) Śambhu seated in the yoga-band and surrounded by his hosts, bearing the form of austerity and having the form of the supreme Lord.
