।। नारद उवाच।। ब्रह्मन्विधे महाभाग किं जातं तदनंतरम्।। कथय त्वं प्रसादेन तां कथां पापनाशिनीम्

Brahmā said: Let that story be heard, dear one, of what happened after that; out of affection for you I shall relate the delightful play of Śiva. The unfailing weapon became unfailing (yet) fruitless upon that Supreme Self; then, when the supreme Lord was enraged, it was quenched. For a moment Rati there became senseless, and fell as if dead with the grief born of her husband's death. The gods said: O Blessed One, let this auspicious word of ours be heard, O Lord; showing mercy, O great Lord, O you who are fond of those who come for refuge — (the son) will bear the name Pradyumna, of him indeed, without doubt; but as soon as that son is born, Śambara will carry him off. Brahmā said: Having said this, Rudra vanished while the gods were praising him; and all the gods became well pleased, their astonishment gone.
