Shiva Purana — Rudra Samhita — Chapter 81
SiP 2 81.1
|| brahmovāca || tatra gatvā smaro garvī śivamāyāvimohitaḥ || mohakassamadhoścādau dharmaṃ vistārayansthitaḥ acetasāmapi tadā kāmāsaktirabhūnmune || sucetāsāṃ hi jīvānāṃ seti kiṃ varṇyate kathā
Brahmā said: Having gone there, the proud Smara, deluded by Śiva's māyā, the deluder, together with Madhu (Spring), first set about spreading his own law. Then, O sage, even the mindless were seized by attachment to desire; as for living beings possessed of good minds — what tale is to be told of it?

vasaṃtasya ca yo dharmmaḥ prasasāra sa sarvataḥ || tapasthāne maheśasyauṣadhiprasthe munīśvara evaṃ vasaṃtavistāro madanāveśakārakaḥ || vanaukasāṃ tadā tatra munīnāṃ dussaho'tyabhūt jvalajjvālāgnisaṃkāśaṃ bhālanetrasamanvitam || dhyānasthaṃ śaṃkaraṃ ko vā samāsādayituṃ kṣamaḥ susaṃsmṛtya varaṃ tasyā vidhidattaṃ purā prabhuḥ || śivopi varṇayāmāsa tadaṃgāni mudā mune evaṃ ceṣṭāṃ tadā dṛṣṭvā śaṃbhurmohamupāgataḥ|| uvāca vacanaṃ caivaṃ mahālīlo maheśvaraḥ
And whatever is the way of Spring, that spread everywhere, O lord of sages, in Maheśa's place of austerity on Auṣadhiprastha. Thus the expansion of Spring, which produces possession by passion, became then hardly bearable there for the forest-dwelling sages. But who is able to approach Śaṃkara, seated in meditation, resembling blazing flaming fire, endowed with the eye in his forehead? Yet the Lord Śiva too, well remembering the boon formerly granted to her by Vidhi (Brahmā), described her limbs with delight, O sage. Seeing such behaviour then, Śambhu came to be bewildered, and Maheśvara, of great play, spoke this speech.
