Nārada said: O disciple of Viṣṇu, great devotee of Śiva, O Creator, well have you told it — this supreme story of Śivā and of Śiva. And Diti was grieved and went to Kaśyapa for refuge; serving him again with devotion, that lady of good vows conceived.

Who was the demon Tāraka, O Brahman, by whom the gods were oppressed? Whose son was he? Tell that story too, which rests on Śiva. Those two Daityas, givers of great suffering, were slain by Viṣṇu in the forms of the man-lion and the boar; thereupon the gods obtained happiness and were free of fear. Diti obtained exceeding happiness on seeing the wretched state of Śakra and the others; the immortals too, Śakra and the rest, went to sorrow through their own deeds. Then, from her service, the great lord was quickly pleased; he, Vajrāṅga, her husband, then spoke these words: "Seeing that great austerity of hers, I came to give her a boon; 'Ask a boon,' I said to her with a well-pleased mind."
