Brahmā said: Once, O you who know Śiva and are the best of those who know Śiva's play, impelled by Śiva you came with delight to the house of Himācala. And Śivā, the Mother of the world, hearing such words of yours, and recognizing him as Śiva by the marks, rejoiced greatly in her heart, O sage.

Seeing you, O sage, the mountain lord bowed to you and worshipped (you), O Nārada; and calling his own daughter, he made her fall at your feet. All the marks on your daughter's hand are auspicious, O mountain; one line (only) is anomalous — hear its result truly. In a mighty lord a fault does not (lead) to sorrow; it gives sorrow only in one who is not mighty. In this matter the sun, fire, and the Gaṅgā are to be understood as illustrations. This daughter of yours will take away half the body of Hara, having pleased by the power of (her) austerity Maheśa, the lord of all. So it is constantly heard, O sage, from the mouths of the Kiṃnaras who come here out of great affection — how could that speech be false? Surely (it is true). Hearing all that, and Kālī's former history, from the sage's mouth, the mountain, with his sons and wife, then became free of doubt.
