Brahmā said: Ho, brahmin! Well have you questioned me, O best of the wise, (you) who ever act for the benefit of the worlds, out of a desire for the worlds' welfare. Again the śruti declares, tremblingly, that which "is": truth, knowledge, and the endless, the supreme bliss, the highest radiance.

Hearing which there would be the destruction of all the sins of all the worlds — that flawless Śiva-principle I shall declare to you: without moon, without day and night, without fire, wind, earth or water; without pradhāna, void as space, devoid of any other light; neither short nor long, free of lightness and heaviness, wherein there is no increase whatever, nor any decrease either. That pradhāna, prakṛti, and the supreme māyā possessed of the guṇas, they call the mother of the buddhi-principle, itself free of modification. O sage, even at the time of dissolution that field (kṣetra) never (perishes); for it is released by the two, Śiva (and Śivā) — that which is not released from them they know accordingly. O best of bearers of golden form, wrapped in a pair of fine garments, with a pair of shining, mighty club-like arms, he is indeed unconquered. Then that Person, Viṣṇu, awakened by the path of meditation, well pleased, was struck with wonder: "What is this greatness of yours?"
