Brahmā said: For the sake of doing Kṣuva good, the Lord who is fond of his devotees went to Dadhīca's hermitage, assuming the form of a brāhmaṇa. Bowing to him, the teacher of the world spoke to Dadhīca, the brāhmaṇa sage — being intent on Kṣuva's business, he resorted to deceit against that foremost of Śiva's devotees. (Dadhīca said:) "I never speak falsely anywhere, my mind being fixed on the remembrance of Śiva; I fear no one in this world, not even gods, demons and the rest." Brahmā said: Hearing his words and seeing him a man without strength, Hari then in anger released against him all his weapons in succession. Then Dadhīca, best of Śiva's devotees, having fought many times in battle with those hosts of Viṣṇu, at once burned them all up. Brahmā said: Hearing that speech of the sage, Viṣṇu then became exceedingly angry at that fearless sage, who was made of Śambhu's radiance. "It is brāhmaṇas alone, O best of kings, who are strong and mighty" — having said this plainly, that brāhmaṇa entered his own hermitage.
