Nārada said: Leaving Śiva aside, Hari went with the gods to Dakṣa's sacrifice — tell me for what reason, whereby there came about that slighting. "There, of the three (twice-born) classes, the brahmin alone is the best, no doubt of it" — so said Dadhīca, a devotee of Śiva and knower of the Veda. Having joined the body together as before, Bhārgava said to Dadhīca — (he being) foremost of Śiva's devotees, a servant, a promulgator of the science of victory: "My mantra that revives the dead is held to be the highest of all." Thus intent upon its recitation, lovingly, with observance, remembering Śiva — seeing him, Śambhu his own lord, that lord of sages rejoiced; having bowed down duly with devotion, with palms well joined, he praised (him). Having quickly gone to the forest, he propitiated Hari, Mukunda, the younger brother of Indra; and indeed the protector of those who take refuge was defeated by Dadhīca, the servant of Mṛtyuñjaya. Especially for the devotees of Rudra there is no fear, O lord of the earth; (yet) he causes grief to the brahmin — for the sake of my curse upon him together with the gods.
