The hosts of Śiva, defeated by the power of Bhṛgu's mantra — what did they do, where did they go? Tell the truth, O great-minded one. Ten thousand of the hosts died there out of shame, cutting off their own limbs with weapons; and we others were enraged. Rudra, the destroyer of the worlds, tearing out a single lock of his hair, dashed it in fury upon the mountain top. Shall I in an instant reduce the egg of Brahmā to ashes, O Hara? Shall I in an instant reduce the gods to ashes, or the lords of sages? I bow to you, Mahādeva, and again I bow. Send me today, quickly, O Hara, to accomplish what you desire. Be it Viṣṇu there, or Brahmā, or the lord of Śacī, or even Yama — this very day strike them all down with full effort.
