Brahmā said: Having spoken thus, the highest praise of Śambhu was made by all the gods; and she obtained a boon from Śiva — hear that attentively, O sage.

atho satī punaḥ śuklapakṣe'ṣṭamyāmupoṣitā || āśvine māsi sarveśaṃ pūjayāmāsa bhaktitaḥ brahmovāca || jānannapīha tadbhāvaṃ mahādevo jagatpatiḥ|| jagau varaṃ vṛṇīṣveti tadvākyaśravaṇecchayā reje satī haraṃ prāpya snigdhabhinnāṃjanaprabhā || candrābhyāśe'bhralekheva sphaṭikojjvalavarṣmaṇaḥ śaṃbhuruvāca || ahaṃ brahmansvārthaparaḥ parigrahakṛtau ca yat || tadā svatvamivasvārthe pratibhāti mamādhunā dakṣastubhyaṃ sutāṃ svāṃ ca svayameva pradāsyati || ahaṃ cāpi vadiṣyāmi tvadvākyaṃ tatsamakṣataḥ prāsthāpyotha mayā kaścicchaṃbhornikaṭamaṃjasā || naitadyogyaṃ nigṛhṇīyādyadyevaṃ viphalārdanā tava putrī samārādhya mahādevaṃ jagatpatim || yo varaḥ prārthitastasya samayoyamupāgataḥ ahaṃ tamānayiṣyāmi nāradena tvadālayam || tasmai tvamenāṃ saṃyaccha tadarthe parikalpitām
Then again Satī, fasting on the eighth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Āśvina, worshipped the Lord of all with devotion. Brahmā said: Although he knew her intent here, Mahādeva, the lord of the world, said, "Choose a boon," out of a wish to hear her speak. Satī, having obtained Hara, shone with the sheen of smooth fresh collyrium, like a streak of cloud beside the moon, (against him) whose body is bright as crystal. Śambhu said: O Brahman, I am intent on my own purpose, and as for the act of taking (a wife) — then, as it were, a sense of ownership in my own interest now appears to me. Dakṣa will of himself give you his own daughter; and I too will speak your words in his presence. And then someone would be sent by me straight to Śambhu's side — this is not fitting; he might refuse, and if so the request (would be) fruitless. Your daughter, having propitiated Mahādeva, the lord of the world — the boon that was asked for, its appointed time has now arrived. I shall bring him, with Nārada, to your house; give her over to him, she who was destined for that very purpose.
