Seeing you and me bowed to and honoured by her father, Satī, following the play of the world, bowed with joy and devotion. Dakṣa, the lord of the world, seeing her standing at the threshold of budding womanhood, thought: "How shall I give this daughter to Bharga?" On the fourteenth of the bright fortnight of Caitra she worshipped Śiva with palāśa flowers and damana leaves, by day and by night, and passed (the time) remembering him. Having come and been seen by the gods, Satī was like another Perfection embodied; deeply absorbed in meditation on Śiva, she then attained the state of perfection. (The gods) took refuge with him as he practised austerity — the unblinking-eyed, the supreme, the witness, the self of all, bearer of many forms, become the Self, the supreme Brahman: "Homage to you, the three-eyed, the arrow-mouthed, ever-shining; homage be to you, the seer of the qualities of all the senses, the causeless one. As the flames of fire and the rays of the sun go forth and return again and again, so this flow (of the world) is called secondary."
