gatvā tatra mahāvīro manmatho mohakārakaḥ || svaprabhāvaṃ tatānāśu mohayāmāsa prāṇinaḥ yadā samādhimāśritya sthitaśśaṃbhurniyaṃtritaḥ || tadā sugaṃdhivātena śītalenātiveginā nālabhadvivaraṃ tasmin kadācidapi maccharaḥ || satyaṃ bravīmi lokeśa mama śaktirna mohane jvaladagniprakāśākṣaṃ jaṭṭārāśikarālinam || śṛṃgiṇaṃ vīkṣya kassthātuṃ brahman śaknoti tatpuraḥ niyojya tānnije kṛtye sthānaṃ dattvā ca nāma ca || māmājñāpaya deveśa kṛpāṃ kṛtvā yathocitām mana ādhāya yavāddhi kuru māragaṇaissaha || moho bhavedyathā śaṃbhordāragrahaṇahetave kṛtaṃ pūrvādadhikataḥ karma tanmohane vidhe || nābhavattasya mohopi kaściddhyānaratātmanaḥ
Having gone there, the great hero Manmatha, the causer of infatuation, at once spread out his power and infatuated living beings. When Śambhu remained self-restrained, resting in deep meditation, then, by means of a cool and very swift fragrant wind — my arrow never at any time found an opening in him. I speak the truth, lord of the worlds: I have no power to infatuate (him). Seeing him whose eyes blaze like fire, who is terrible with his mass of matted locks and bears (a crescent like) a horn — who, O Brahman, is able to stand before him? Having appointed them to their own tasks and given (them) a place and a name, command me, lord of the gods, showing me such grace as is fitting. Setting your mind (to it), act together with the hosts of Māra, so that infatuation may arise in Śambhu, to the end of his taking a wife. The work done to infatuate him was greater than before, O Vidhi; yet not even the least infatuation arose in him, whose self was intent on meditation.
