When Vasiṣṭha, having sat down (and taught) the manner of the austerity, had gone to his own house, Sandhyā too, having understood the nature of the austerity, was filled with joy. And Hara, entering the heart of her whose eyes were closed, gave her divine knowledge, divine speech, and two divine eyes. "Homage, homage to the cause of causes, the giver of divine, immortal knowledge and power; to the giver of well-being to all the worlds and the regions between them; to him whose form is light, higher than the highest." Maheśvara said: I am pleased, good lady, by your supreme austerity, and by your hymn, O auspicious and wise one; now choose a boon. Maheśvara said: Listen, O goddess Sandhyā: your sin has gone to ashes; the anger I cast upon you has been given up (by me), and you have become pure through the performance of austerity. And that Medhātithi — at the sage's twelve-year sacrifice, when the fire is wholly ablaze, let it be done by you soon; in austerity there is none equal to the good, neither has been nor will be — he by whom the sacrifice, the Jyotiṣṭoma, the great rite, has been undertaken.
