Merely from looking at his face, having learned the matter from elsewhere, Dakṣa and the other creators gave him a station and a wife. Since a beautiful woman was duly born from Brahmā as he meditated, she is therefore renowned as Saṃdhyā, of surpassing radiance, like a jasmine. Then all those sages were deluded, and I too, O sage; together with (their) mind they underwent some alteration at the outset. Seeing thus the sinful course of his brothers and of his father, Dharma then called to mind Śambhu, the Lord who protects dharma. Mother, sister, brother's wife, and likewise daughter — these are never to be looked upon with an evil eye by one who is wise. Sixty-four thousand are declared to be the Agniṣvāttas, and eighty-six thousand the Barhiṣads, O sage. Meanwhile Śambhu, having shown favour to all the twice-born and having duly safeguarded dharma, quickly vanished. "I, Viṣṇu, and likewise Śambhu — all are within range of your arrow": what was said by you, that has been tested by me as well.
