Now the second (section), the Satī-khaṇḍa, begins. Nārada said: O Vidhi (Brahmā), you know everything, and that by the grace of Śaṃkara; for wondrous, auspicious tales of Śiva and Śivā have been told by you to me.

Having heard the supreme story of Śiva that came forth from the lotus of your mouth, I am still unsated, O lord, and I wish to hear it yet again. Formerly I too, on seeing my own daughter named Sandhyā together with (my) sons, became perverted, dear father, sorely stricken by Kāma's arrows. Having wedded her, he came and sported on his own mountain with her who acted as (his) consort, being much bewildered, yet independent and having himself assumed a body. Having brought him forth along with his hosts, (and he) saying, 'What shall I do?', he commanded the destruction of the sacrifice, preceded by every kind of insult. And Rudra was worshipped there by all the gods, especially at the sacrifice in the forest by Viśva and the others, with devotion and with well-pleased hearts.
