There is a certain most excellent cave in the Himalaya mountain, near which the river of the gods always flows swiftly. Indra said: "Best of friends, great hero, ever doer of good, listen with affection to my word, and give help of your own accord. Having found some occasion, O gods, Kāma will live; but here no one will practise the stratagem of Kāma." Having bowed to Rudra, the sage, filled with pride, told everything of his own conduct, thinking himself a great soul, his own master, and the conqueror of Kāma. Whatever Śiva's will is in the world, that alone comes to pass; the whole world is subject to that, since (all) speech rests therein. He, the protector of the world, knowing what was to be done by Śaṃkara, at Śiva's command then spoke from the heart to the best of sages.
