When the mighty Daitya Hiraṇyākṣa, son of Diti, was slain in time by the god Viṣṇu, Diti (?) came to grief. — It is certain: all the Vedas, and Indra with the (other gods), rest upon the brahmins; the gods have the brahmins for their strength; no doubt need be entertained here. — Then again he became so concealed that no one at all would know: becoming a forest-dweller in the wood, in the form of a water-creature in a pool. — And as long as the Dānava looked contemptuously at the All-knowing One, so long (Śiva) took hold of him as he came and crushed him in the armpit-press. — Having heard this deed of mine and remembered this liṅga in his heart, a mortal entering battle wins victory without doubt. — (This account is) supreme, granting devotion, blessed, pleasing to Śiva, auspicious, bestowing highest knowledge, delightful, removing (all) disorder, supreme.
