Seeing him, astonished, (Bāṇa) then spoke a word: "What is the reason?" Bāṇa, his mind seized by anger, a champion in battle, as though laughing, went out from that dwelling like Death with the thunderbolt in hand. Having killed those servants with it, he went again into the inner apartments; having bound him and put him inside a cage, he ceased from the fight. Bāṇa, greatly enraged, spoke to the mighty son of the charioteer. Kumbhāṇḍa said: Who are you, whose are you, hey hero? Speak the truth before me. Or by whom were you brought here, you evildoer, basest of men? He alone is always the maker, the upholder and the destroyer of the worlds, bearing rajas, sattva and tamas, having the nature of Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Hara. With heavy blows of his fists he tore the cage apart, and reduced to ashes those arrows that had terrifying serpent forms.
