By him was this city Alakā enjoyed, which had been built by the maker of the world — having formerly propitiated the god Tryambaka with most fierce austerity, fixing his mind upon the liṅga that stood there in the form of Sthāṇu. (The god) said, "I am a giver of boons; so tell (your wish), O lord of Alakā." Then the Goddess said: "God, why does this wicked ascetic, looking at me again and again, speak (thus)? Do you make for me the splendour of austerity." The Goddess said: "Child, may your devotion to Bhava be spotless always; O Bhava, he is one-eyed-tawny, with his left eye burst."
