Vyāsa said: When Śukra had been swallowed by Rudra, what did the Dānavas do, and Andhaka and the great heroes? Tell the truth of it, great sage. — "Therefore fight here with the enemies without delay!" — and by those heroes... the Pramatha heroes, having called to mind the lotus feet of the guru...

Sanatkumāra said: When Kāvya had been swallowed by the lord of Girijā, the Daityas became bereft of any hope of victory, like lordly elephants freed of their trunks, like bulls deprived of their horns. "Shame on us, by whom the one honoured of our line, the best of the line, the guru, capable of everything, our protector, was not protected in calamity!" — with the resolve that this saying must be made good, those Daityas, the sons of Danu, churned the Pramathas in battle, having sounded the war-drum; and, struck by those thunderbolt-blows discharged as volleys of arrows, the Pramathas, like mountains, no longer prevailed under the weapons, like clouds without water. Then, by the yoga of Śambhu, the Bhārgava in Śukra's form, having recited this best of mantras, (came out) from the cage of Śambhu's belly.

Like hosts of gods without a head, like twice-born men deprived of study, like beings without any effort, or like those with effort but bereft of good fortune,

nandinā cā hṛte śukre gilite ca viṣādinā || viṣādamagamandaityā yatamānaraṇotsavāḥ
When Śukra was carried off by Nandin and swallowed by the bearer of poison, the Daityas fell into dejection, they who had been exerting themselves at the festival of battle.

As, without one single power of greatness, streams of ritual acts come to be deprived of their fruits; as kṣatriyas without heroism; as the whole body of dharma without truth — so firmness, valour, resort, fame, strength, splendour, prowess: all has been carried off at once, when the one Bhārgava was carried off.
