Great is my curiosity to hear this, O lord of sages; show me favour and let me hear it, O son of Brahmā; homage to you. — He practised most terrible austerity in a valley of Mandara, his arms upraised, his gaze on the sky, touching the ground (only) with his toe-tips. Consecrated in the kingship by his great-grandfather, he set his mind on the destruction of the three worlds; having wiped out all the dharmas, heedless, he too conquered all the gods in battle. — Prahlāda said: This is the Lord, the endless one, in the mere form of a man-lion, who has entered the city, within you; turn back from the fight and go for refuge — I behold the terrible shape of the lion. — When that foe of the gods was slain, Viṣṇu of wondrous valour, well pleased, called to Prahlāda who had made obeisance, and having consecrated him in the kingdom, then went to that state which is beyond reasoning.
