नारद उवाच ।। शंखचूडवधं श्रुत्वा चरितं शशिमौलिनः ।। अयं तृप्तोऽस्मि नो त्वत्तोऽमृतं पीत्वा यथा जनः

O Brahmin, whatever deed there is of that great-souled Maheśa, who, resorting to māyā, performs his fine play that gives joy to devotees — tell me today the whole of it with its secret, by the favour of Brahmā's son. For by me it was well known indeed from Skanda, from the son of Maheśa of measureless understanding: singing, laughing, weeping, dancing, licking about, with a fierce roaring sound — when that (being) of wondrous appearance had been born, Bhava spoke to Gaurī with a smile beforehand; and Pinākin, pleased with his austerity, went to bestow the boon fully, O best of the twice-born; and having reached that place, that bull-bannered Maheśa spoke to the foremost of the Daityas.
