Kālanemi (rushed) at Nandin, Śumbha at Lambodara, and Niśumbha, apprehensive, rushed at the six-faced god. And Kālanemi, greatly enraged, cut through Nandin's bow with very sharp iron-tipped arrows loosed from his own bow. Seeing him hard pressed, Vīrabhadra of great strength rushed up swiftly, accompanied by a crore of spirits. Then even the defeated demons became highly excited and roared the louder, O Vyāsa, being then eager for battle. Then the lord of the gaṇas, enraged, remembering Śiva's lotus feet, came upon (him) and, exceedingly strong, cut the demon's mace with his axe. With a very great iron club (the demon) split the head of the gaṇa-chief: Vīrabhadra fell to the ground and shed much blood.
