Sanatkumāra said: When Nārada, having taken leave of that demon, had gone to heaven, the demon-king, from hearing of that beauty, became tormented by the fever of Kāma. "Whatever fine jewels there are in the three worlds, those are mine; know that the whole world, moving and unmoving, is subject to me." And out of pride he bowed to him, his body overwhelmed by that splendour; that messenger named Rāhu went near to Śambhu. Sanatkumāra said: While Rāhu was speaking in this way, from between the brows of the trident-bearer there arose a fearsome being whose sound was like a harsh thunderbolt. Then that being, leaving Rāhu behind in the sky, came close to Śiva and made his request to Mahādeva in a piteous voice. Sanatkumāra said: Having thus obtained a boon from Śambhu, that being rejoiced greatly; and from that time on, O lord of gods, he has stood at the door as Kīrtimukha (Face of Glory).
