Grieving, all those gods went to Śiva for refuge, (turning) in mind to Śaṃkara, god of gods, lord of all lords, the Lord. "By the demon Jalandhara the gods have been utterly scattered; driven from our own places and from our lordship, we are grieved and distraught." Then, seeing the best of sages arrived, the god Jalandhara rose up and with supreme devotion gave (him) an excellent, foremost seat. "So too, O lord of demons, your prosperity was remembered by me; desiring to behold it, I have come here into your presence. In whose house there are indeed all the fine jewels, O Jalandhara, if there is no jewel of a wife, those (jewels) do not shine — assuredly they are in vain. As the prosperity of him who enjoys the jewel among women became (splendid), not so is yours, O lord of demons, though you are master of all jewels."
