There came, well pleased, the radiant descendant of Bhṛgu, like a mass of splendour embodied, illuminating all the quarters. — Formerly there was Bali, the hero, mighty son of Virocana, and great-grandson of Hiraṇyakaśipu, best of the knowers of dharma. — Then, summoning the excellent messenger named Ghasmara, he related the whole affair, all that the self-possessed preceptor had said. — Sanatkumāra said: Hearing thus the messenger's words, the lord of the thirty (gods) was astonished; and Indra, remembering him, spoke to him, filled with fear and rage. — Then, with crores of army-commanders headed by Śumbha and Niśumbha, the great hero, the mighty son of the sea, marched out. — Jalandhara said: The gods slain by me in battle—how do they rise up again? Then (it was) heard that the Saṃjīvinī science is nowhere else (but with him). — Jalandhara, the great Daitya—he is not able to be conquered, since he is born of a portion of Rudra and is the crusher of all the immortals.
