सनत्कुमार उवाच ।। असृजच्च महातेजाः पुरुषं स्वात्मसंभवम् ।। एकं मायामयं तेषां धर्मविघ्नार्थमच्युतः

मुंडिनं म्लानवस्त्रं च गुंफिपात्रसमन्वितम् ।। दधानं पुंजिकां हस्ते चालयंतं पदेपदे मायिन्मायामयं शास्त्रं तत्षोडशसहस्रकम् ।। श्रौतस्मार्तविरुद्धं च वर्णाश्रम विवर्जितम् ततश्चैव पुनर्गत्वा मरुस्थल्यां त्वया विभो ।। स्थातव्यं च स्वधर्मेण कलिर्यावत्समा व्रजेत् मार्जनीं ध्रियमाणाश्च वस्त्रखंडविनिर्मिताम् ।। शनैः शनैश्चलन्तो हि जीवहिंसाभयाद्ध्रुवम् शिवार्चनप्रभावेण तन्माया सहसा मुने।। त्रिपुरे न चचालाशु निर्विण्णोभूत्तदा यतिः दृष्ट्वा च बहवो धर्मा नैतेन सदृशाः पुनः।। वयं सुदीक्षिताश्चात्र दृष्ट्वा धर्मं सनातनम् सनत्कुमार उवाच ।। इत्याकर्ण्य वचस्तस्य त्रिपुराधीशितुस्तदा ।। दूरीकृत्य मुखाद्वस्त्रमुवाच ऋषिसत्तमः

muṃḍinaṃ mlānavastraṃ ca guṃphipātrasamanvitam || dadhānaṃ puṃjikāṃ haste cālayaṃtaṃ padepade māyinmāyāmayaṃ śāstraṃ tatṣoḍaśasahasrakam || śrautasmārtaviruddhaṃ ca varṇāśrama vivarjitam tataścaiva punargatvā marusthalyāṃ tvayā vibho || sthātavyaṃ ca svadharmeṇa kaliryāvatsamā vrajet mārjanīṃ dhriyamāṇāśca vastrakhaṃḍavinirmitām || śanaiḥ śanaiścalanto hi jīvahiṃsābhayāddhruvam śivārcanaprabhāveṇa tanmāyā sahasā mune|| tripure na cacālāśu nirviṇṇobhūttadā yatiḥ dṛṣṭvā ca bahavo dharmā naitena sadṛśāḥ punaḥ|| vayaṃ sudīkṣitāścātra dṛṣṭvā dharmaṃ sanātanam sanatkumāra uvāca || ityākarṇya vacastasya tripurādhīśitustadā || dūrīkṛtya mukhādvastramuvāca ṛṣisattamaḥ

(He was) shaven-headed, in a faded garment, equipped with a bound begging-bowl, holding a small bundle (of cloth) in his hand and sweeping at every step. The illusionist's scripture, made of illusion, was of sixteen thousand (verses), opposed to śruti and smṛti and rejecting the classes and the stages of life. "And then, O mighty one, going again to the desert land, you must abide by your own dharma until the Kali (age) and its years arrive." And they went very slowly, holding a broom made of a piece of cloth, surely out of fear of injuring living creatures. But by the power of the worship of Śiva that illusion, O sage, could not at once prevail in Tripura; then the ascetic became disheartened. "And I have seen many dharmas—none of them is like this.
