Sūta said: O Śaunaka and the other seers, listen attentively to it all; today I shall tell with great delight the determination about the offering of flowers. The liṅga, Śiva, and flowers likewise, and unbroken rice-grains, and (the liṅga) smeared with sandal, and again the stream of water. For fame the number, with vehicles and the rest, is a thousand. One who desires liberation should worship Śambhu with five crores, with good devotion. With bandhūka flowers there is the obtaining of ornaments; from the offering of jāti (jasmine) too, without doubt. With atasī flowers one would attain to being dear to Viṣṇu. Having performed the worship with the Rudra (mantra) predominant, one should place a very beautiful garment upon Śiva; there the offering of rice-grains is excellent. His progeny increases if it is done up to a lakh. With half a droṇa a lakh is achieved, the rite performed according to rule. And likewise one prastha of the śaṅkhapuṣpa flower has been declared by Vyāsa, who displays the subtle measure, to be indeed a lakh. Or with the Gāyatrī, or with the names ending in "namaḥ" and beginning with the praṇava, or with the mantras stated in the āgamas, likewise the water-stream and the rest. By honey one becomes the king of the yakṣas through the worship of Śiva. And a stream of sugarcane juice upon Śiva produces every joy.
