Gaṇeśa too, seeing the foremost of the gaṇas arrived in this way, made a show of battle-fury and said this to them as they stood there. || Brahmā said: || Thus rebuked, they, their arms adorned with clubs, took up various weapons and so came on. As Time is seen, terrifying, when he brings about the end of a kalpa, just so was he seen by all as the bringer of dissolution. || Brahmā said: || Hearing the lord's words, without understanding, deluded by ignorance, we went near him, dear one, along with all the best of the sages. Whatever weapon each one had, all of that in particular they came up by force and loosed upon Gaṇeśa. A single boy tossed about the whole army, hard to withstand, as the ocean was once churned by the best of mountains. "You have shown in the world, O lord, your own wondrous power — by you who are independent, O Śambhu, smiter of all pride."
