Homage to Śrī Gaṇeśa. Homage to Śrī Gaurī and Śaṃkara. Here begins the fourth section, the Kumārakhaṇḍa, contained in the Rudra-saṃhitā. I bow to Śiva, pleased with his son (?), of equal mind, who is dear to love and gives love, who is full and makes (others) full, the one dwelling-place of wholly complete sovereignty; (I bow to) Śaṃkara, who is truth and made of truth, whose majesty is thrice true, who loves truth and grants truth, who is praised by Viṣṇu and Brahmā, and who has taken on a form by his own grace.

Nārada said: Having married Girijā, Śaṃkara, the world's benefactor, went to his own mountain — what did he do then, O Brahman? Tell that. Having come to Kailāsa and wedded Śivā, Śiva too attained the utmost splendour. And he pondered the gods' business, and also the affliction of the people; (yet) no son was born to him for the gods' business — we do not know the reason here. Why then is delay made by him, the lord of the gods? (Whoever finds fault) would here become fallen from knowledge, with his fame destroyed and bereft of fortune; that sinner goes in the end to (the hell) Kālasūtra for a hundred thousand years. And for a thousand divine years that act of Śambhu's love-enjoyment (continued). And when the thousand years were complete, the lords of the gods went there. Hearing of that, Hari, gathering all of us gods, went swiftly to the mountain Kailāsa, dear to Śiva; and Hari, together with the immortals and with me, praised Śambhu with great affection. Standing there, O best of sages, (they addressed) Hara, the lord of all worlds.
