Why did the foetus not miscarry?" The gods said: "O Menā, daughter of the ancestors, hear our words gladly: this is truly the supreme one, Śiva himself, who brings the highest happiness." He has no garment, no ornaments, no helpers at all; he has no auspicious mount, no youth, no wealth either. You must not say, 'Let her be given to Śiva.' I will not give this my own daughter, dearer than life, to Śiva." "You do not know Śiva's nature: for the attributeless one, that is his attribute. He is ugly and he is beautiful; he is to be served by all, the refuge of the good."
