Brahmā said: So she, given over to ignorance, in order to see Śiva, at once came with you, O sage, to the moon-terrace. Then, seeing there a Vasu, his lord, the supreme master, Menā was greatly delighted and said, "This is Śiva." Then, seeing a splendour twice as great as that one's, she said, "This is Rudra, Girijā's husband," but you said, "No, it is not so." And in the midst of them, seeing the lord of speech, Menakā said, "This is Rudra, Girijā's husband," and then you said, "No." Brahmā said: Hearing his words, Menā thought her (daughter) blessed, possessed of great riches, fortunate, bringing happiness to three families. Just then arrived Rudra's most astonishing host, accompanied by bhūtas, pretas and the like, attended by various gaṇas—(and him) with matted locks, moon-crested, ten-armed, skull-bearing, with a tiger-skin as upper garment, and the excellent Pināka in his hand.

And Śiva then, recognising the egotism in her, the Lord, having done a wondrous piece of play, spoke to Viṣṇu and to me, dear one. Just then Brahmā arrived, the highest mass of radiances, with the sons of the foremost sages, praised as if he were the very heap of dharma in visible form.
