punīṣe vām arakṣasam manīṣāṁ somam indrāya varuṇāya juhvat | ghṛtapratīkām uṣasaṁ na devīṁ tā no yāmann uruṣyatām abhīke

I purify for you two a thought free of demons, pouring soma for Indra, for Varuṇa — (a thought) ghee-faced like the goddess Dawn. May those two keep us wide (of danger) on our course, at the encounter.

FOR you I deck a harmless hymn, presenting the Soma juice to Varuṇa and Indra- A hymn that shines like heavenly Dawn with fatness. May they be near us on the march and guard us.

RV 7 85.2

स्पर्धन्ते वा उ देवहूये अत्र येषु ध्वजेषु दिद्यवः पतन्ति । युवꣳ ताꣳ इन्द्रावरुणाव् अमित्रान् हतम् पराचः शर्वा विषूचः

spardhante vā u devahūye atra yeṣu dhvajeṣu didyavaḥ patanti | yuvaṁ tām̐ indrāvaruṇāv amitrān hatam parācaḥ śarvā viṣūcaḥ

Indeed they contend here at the calling of the gods, in whose banners the missiles fall. You two, Indra and Varuṇa, strike those foes down with your arrow, turned away and scattered.

Here where the arrows fall amid the banners both hosts invoke the Gods in emulation. O Indra-Varuṇa, smite back those-our foemen, yea, smite them withyour shaft to every quarter.

āpaś cid dhi svayaśasaḥ sadaḥsu devīr indraṁ varuṇaṁ devatā dhuḥ | kṛṣṭīr anyo dhārayati praviktā vṛtrāṇy anyo apratīni hanti

For even the waters, self-glorious goddesses, set Indra and Varuṇa in their seats as the divinity. The one upholds the peoples, set apart; the other slays the obstacles that have no match.
